.54 cal Browning Mtn Rifle
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:39:02 AM »
A year ago my wife inhearitated several guns from her father's estate one being a .54 Browning Mtn Rifle. Over the past year I have cleaned and cleaned the rifle. A few weeks ago I finally got up the nerve to take it to the range. Much to my surprise the recoil was far less punishing than I expected (looking at the iron cresent butt) and it is very accurate. I don't really know a whole lot about the rifle and would like more info on it like yrs of production, a rough idea of a value and any other people's experience with these.

IIRC, they were issued starting in the early 1980's, and currently seem to change hands for around $850 +/- in excellent condition.

I have one in 50 cal. I believe, or maybe just in my area, that the 54 cal is more desireable and a bit more $$
