who has experience with these?  and what is your opinion of them compared to a marlin 1984?

I have a B92 in 44 mag,  in the late 1980's I sold my Marlin in 44 mag. The Browning has great fit/finish, every bit as accurate as the Marlin with jacketed bullets, my Marlin had the micro groove barrel and I did not know about correct sizing lead bullets so from what I saw the Browning was much more accurate with lead bullets.
The action on the Browning is much smoother than the Marlin I had.
The reason I sold my marlin was I also had one in 357mag that hit everything I pointed it at and I expected the 44mag to be equal and in the accuracy dept it was not

I have owned two of the Brownings, a .44 and a .357. I sold the .44, because the barrel was way out of spec - like .433 grooves and .428 bore with a really slow twist, 1:38 if I remember correctly.  It would shoot Ranch Dog's 265 at full throttle pretty well, (sized to .433) but hated any and all light loads. On the other hand, the .357 is properly dimensioned and shoots good with everything I feed it. Plus it doesn't kick as much. So far, I have gone through about a half dozen 44 mag lever guns and never found any that were worth keeping. Haven't had a Rossi yet, but I've tried pretty much everything else. I am not impressed. Why the manufacturers can't make a correctly cut 44 barrel is beyond me - they can make 35s and 45s, why not 44s?

I have two Marlin 1894's in 44 Magnum, they are perfect. And so is every other Marlin I shoot cast bullets in. I did have to open the throat of my 336 in .38-55  few thousanths though.

Consider yourself lucky. I've never seen a Marlin .44 that was right.  For that matter, a 30 cal. either. They all have had .303" bores but I just use bigger bullets and they shoot great anyhow. Mind you, this is with cast bullets only. They all shoot fine with jacketed bullets, but I never use those.

Maybe the gun is right and the bullets are WRONG

I have seen some Marlins that shoot cast bullets really well. All it takes is the correct bullet diameter.
I don't know why I am defending the Marlin, I don't even own one in 44 mag anymore.

This is the second B92 44 that I've owned, I foolishly let the first one get away in trade for something new and shiny.

I bought this one from an old gentleman at a Salt Lake City gunshow, he had lived for many years in rural Alaska and said this rifle lived above the back door. I'm sure it has some stories to tell.

The checkering and stock refinish were done before I got it, by someone who knew their business!

I have an old Marlin 1894 44mag that is quite right. Action is smooth as silk and it is accurate. I also have a Browning Centennial 92 in 44mag that is unfired. Its a beaut. I will shoot it when the Marlin dies. Prolly means I won't...

There is only one thing I don't like about my B92, and that is the Gold trigger.

But the fit and finish is great, and has shot everything out of it good.  And it matchs up nice with my 86.
