They had one at my local gander mountain in really nice shape for 265.00.

Is that a good price?

I don't think I'm going to buy it as the funds will not allow right now, but I'm curious.

Five years ago I would have said no.  But today I think thats a pretty good price, especially if all of the serial #'s match and it has a good bore.  They are getting harder and harder to find.

Just out of curiosity, is that Gander Mtn. anywhere near western Pa?

If it is a Schmidt-Rubin, other than the K31, than I'd say it's a good price.

I'd give $265 for a nice K31 in a minute.  But the cops put a boot on my '76 Dodge, and I'm stuck in Pittsburgh.

GRIMJIM, now all you need to do is bring that Swede down to Chief City Shooter Club(Pontiac, Il.) and shoot the service rifle match with us? I can provide directions, if interested?

I didn't buy it though. I always thought it was an interesting design and was just wondering if the price was reasonable.

I just don't have the extra cash right now.

I actually have a few milsurps, couple of nagants, enfields, turkish mauser, arisaka and an old veterli/vitale that I will probably never get to shoot. I just plink with them though. I've never developed a load or seriously shot target with them.

I collected a couple of milsurps. I like the history behind them and I would look for a bayonet for it and shoot it a little.

I like them because most are relatively inexpensive and ammo ,well, used to be readily available.

I love my old M1911 Schmidt-Rubin. Inexpensive is a relative term. A 20-round box of ammo now costs more than I paid for my gun. It was made in 1915 and shoots plenty accurate for me. I just sorta like those old full length rifles.

I bought my first K31 last spring, and have been considering getting another.  IMO they and the Swede 6.5 x 55 are the best accurate shooting surplus guns.  Here's what I've been finding -
 
SAMCO, a long time internet source, only has guns with cracked beech stocks left, $220 to 240 depending on grade.  I think they guarantee the bolt and receiver #'s match.
FGS, sells parts guns (no matching #'s and beech stock) from $125 to $200 depending on grade.  Walnut stocks with all matching #'s go from $350 and up.

There were only slightly over 1/2 million of these rifles made.  It appears that they are drying up!  Consider that there were something like 8 1/2 million springfields made, and the going price for a CMP parts gun is $500.

  I bought mine at a gun store in Fort Worth, Texas about 3 yrs. ago for $179 and it is an all-matching,walnut stocked piece of work. I went to Swiss Rifles.com and learned all I could. Fitted with a Pierre's clamp-on scope mount it will shoot extremely well,better than I can. I have owned and sold many mil-surps but I will not let go of my K-31. At this time I don't consider $200 plus for a good K-31 to be too much. If your into collector status you have to go the matching numbers route;if you just want a good shooter go with the bore condition and most bores will be good. They will shoot just as good with beech stocks and if the mag. doesn't match they will still shoot with a good bore. It's your call with what you want and can afford.  Kix

I just got back from Camp Perry.  Correction:  There were no 1903 or A3 Springfields for sale at the CMP store.  Looks like the $500 03 parts gun days are over.

I know it is late, but I was surprised no one mentioned the K31 was madde to allow .308 cal bullets to be loaded in the 7.5 X 55 cases.  Makes it much easier to reload and much cheaper.  Excelent karabine! 8)
