Does anyone have pictures of the short barreled 97 ???
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:55:10 AM »
Shortly after purchasing my 97 in 2004 a new option was offered...the 3" or so barrel lenghth for the 97 (also the 83). I really want to add this gun to my collection. My dream gun: short barrel, unflutted cylinder, standard grip frame (probably with the white micarta). I'm unsure of the caliber though and since I have a fixed sight model would probably go with the adjustable sights. If anyone has some photos to share of the short barreled guns it would be greatly appreciated! Also wish FA would bring back the "Packer" model but also offer it for the 97 frame size. I think that would be awsome.

Thanks a bunch for the link MarkH ....I see a model 97 (except with black micarta grips) like the one I want. Better than the FA catalog! Now if only my wife would put off spending money on "luxuries" like eating, clothes, and paying the electric, bill I could finally add this to my collection :).

Here is one I own - .44 Special with a Duclos S D Myres holster.  Sweet little gun.  In the second picture, the .44 is shown with my 4 1/4" .45 Colt M97.

cubrock, which one do you prefer...4 and 1/4" or 3" as far as shooting performance, accuracy, handling etc.? Anyway, I love them both. Great pair of guns there! P.S. Would you recommend the adjustable sights for the 3 inch or the fixed sights?? Any preference?   Any info would really help as the 3" will probably be my next purchase.

The 4 1/4" gun is easier to shoot by far.  The 3.5" gun is easier to pack, even though the length difference is minimal.  I like adjustable sights on my guns, but FA's windage adjustable blade for their fixed sight guns is a good compromise between the versatility of the adjustable sighted gun and the packability/reliability of the fixed sights.
