Huntsman / Sidekick Scope set-up
« on: August 31, 2009, 03:38:29 PM »
I am using a factory weaver style base with Leupold Rings and Bushnell Banner w/ Circle X reticle.[3X9 X40] What are you guys using? Are you leaving the 'Plastic Sights" on or remove and plug?

I put a bushnell trophy 3-9x by 40 on my heritage{same as a sidekick} I left my open sights on it incase I run into issue's with the scope,I can just take the scope off and still use the ML.I wasn't to crazy about the hammer extension but I am getting use to it.

Removed my sights and went with the factory base and the Durasight rings with one of the new Bushnell DOA 250 3-9X40 scopes.  I plugged my sight holes for a cleaner look.

I removed the sights and have the standard weaver style base.  I have weaver high quadlock rings and a nikon buckmaster 3x9x40 scope.  My buddy asked why would you put on a scope that costs more than the gun. I put three shots in a bullseye touching.  I looked over at him and said that is why.

i guess brownells or midway usa might have some. I am thinking of quick release rings, so I can use my plastic fiber sights as back up, may save a hunt someday???

i would ask how they could? either you trust your scope or you dont.  By the time you realized there was a ptoblem, the deer would be in the next county by the time you removed the scope.

I am saying you took time off work, paid for a hunt, or some other major investment to get to hunt. You're hours away from home, with one gun. You miss a deer in the morning hunt, check it lunch, scope is off, hunt with irons till dark. Or you bang your scope on the way into woods or up a tree, cracks a lens, or its raining and you discover it has fogged. Thats when you need a backup. If I am from the South and Hunting in Montana, I want peace of mind.

And mibighntr , nice pics!

I use a Leupold 2X7X33ML VX 2 with Leupold Rings and Base.

Does anyone have a solution for being able to see the front sight in the scope on a bright day?

I would just bring two good scopes that are set up for the rifle with QD rings.  Odds of both going bad are slim.

And my only solution was to take the front sight off, but I like low scope mounts.
