California A Zone Fire Closes Some Hunting Areas Mexican MJ Grow!

Looks like the La Brea Fire burning in the area of the San Rafael Wilderness on the Los Padres N.F.  could have a negative impact on A ZONE deer hunters.  A large fire incident management team took the fire over this morning.  The fire has a lot of potential.

Here is a resource to check for closers because of the fire.  Information on the site should be update a couple times a day after the management team gets up to speed.

This is a normal event for California A Zone hunters.  This area can have a major fire any time of the year, but this is California’s earliest deer season, and it comes in the peak of fire season.  The area is populated by the California Coastal Blacktail, and wild pigs.

I just happen to pick this item up and local hunters might or might not have additional information.
I suspect we will see topo maps of the fire posted tonight or tomorrow. 

I do not hunt the A zone but it appears the fire started the opening day of the season.  I hope this is not a hunter caused fire.

7/15 FIRE INVESTIGATORS DETERMINE CAUSE OF LA BREA FIRE

GOLETA, CA... A week-long investigation by U.S. Forest Service Special Agents, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit and Fire Investigators has revealed the cause of the La Brea Fire. Investigators revealed that the La Brea Fire was started by a cooking fire in a marijuana drug trafficking operation.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit has confirmed that the camp at the origin of the fire was an illegal marijuana operation believed to be run by a Mexican National Drug Organization. The Narcotics Unit has been working in the area within the last month eradicating other nearby marijuana cultivation sites.

I see in the news tonight that in the yuba/nevada co. fire some pot farms went up in smoke (pun intended). The ones that went up here were just small areas so there probably not CARTEL growers.

Interesting concept, there has been a few more gunfights between the Mexican growers, and LE in the last couple of years.  The main battles have been between the growers, and pot pirates.  It is a serious business.

A new curve ball in the mix is that some of the Mexican growers are now better trained in combat.  There have been number arrested carrying Mexican Army I.D. cards.
