Catching up on the news papers from while I was gone. Seems we had a girl, age 15, run a way from home. What made this different is that this young woman understood it is a rough world out there and a young woman needed to protect herself. She is from the Haystack Mountain area, north of Fairbanks. The people that live up there mostly live a subsistence lifestyle. They believe that they need to take care of themselves, and not depend on the government for anything.
Well when this young lady left she took with her an 18" Broad sword. She also took a smaller sword she could hid on her person. She spent two nights out in the wilderness alone. Then she went back home.
At least there was no rapist, pedafiles, molesters, or muggers out there. The only thing that might have given her a problem would have been a Grizzly Bear. Guess she figured she could handle one of those.
