Flint Priming

How many primes should I expect to get out of one pound of 4fg powder?  I'm putting together my first order of powder and need to figure up it's composition.

You don't really need 4F because 3F works just fine for everything (all calibers & priming.)  If you wish to get some, I'm thinking you'll never use up an entire can.

At 2 or 3 grains per prime and 7,000 grains in a pound, I'd guess you'll get between 2,000 and 3,000 primes out of a pound of 4Fg powder.

yup, 7000 div. 3 = 2,333.33333333

If ya can (:D) get Swiss Null B. I have seen that stuff used by very serious target shooters and their flintlocks go off instantaniously like cap locks!!

Swamp man is right that 3f will work, it is not as fast burning as 4f.  If you are shooting competition, every millisecond counts and the faster the better.

In my .32 caliber Pedersoli Frontier rifle I use FFFG for the main charge as well as prime.  I haven't noticed any delay in ingintion time.  Heck of a squirrel rifle.

im still using the original 4f can i bought over 4  years ago! Sighted in 4 or 5 different flintlocks with that 4f. Still have over half of it too.
