Low profile slide in camper
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:06:09 AM »
Does anybody make slide in campers that don't stick up above the truck cab?

I basically want to have the room of a long bed with a topper for my 5.5' bed.
Just sleeping room and gear storage nothing fancy.

No one that I know of has a model that has such a low profile , about the only thing that I can think of would be a cap and a you-build-it-interior .

I have seen a pop-up style...think it was Alaskan something or other..sorry don't remember the name.  Also saw a cool one that you build yourself on-line..Butler projects.  It is worth a look and might save you some bucks.

This is all I found for anyone interested. The layout isn't for me.

Thanks guys.
I would get a shell but,
there just isn't any good way to stuff a 6'1" man and his 5'11" wife in a 5'6" bed. ;D
Probably have to look for a trailer.
I was hoping to come up with a camper so I could pull my boat too.

I made one once but it wasn't easy, and it didn't work too good. I think about the only option you have is one that sticks over the pickup cab. Some of those are lower profile than others. I have one now that is one of the taller ones. I wanted as short as I could get too, but the price was right on this one, I bought it used. Even at that it doesn't affect my gas mileage too much, I get 15mpg with it on. Doesn't seem to make any difference whether we are in the mountains or driving in Kansas.
