Danner Ft. Lewis boots
« on: October 18, 2008, 03:22:56 AM »
Hello forum
I am about to invest my hard earned money into a pare of hunting boots. These will be used for Deer hunting in the chilly days of October here in Oregon and Elk hunting when no snow is on the ground in November. My current boots are the Cabela’s all  Nylon Cordura boots. They are shot and needing replaced after only two seasons of use. No more cheap boots. I was wondering if any of you have used the Danner Fort Lewis boot?  If so, how do you like them and have they held up well.

A trip to Portland at the Danner factory is possible.

Thanks

Danner FT Lewis boots are great boots..........However, Before you drop your $$ on them, check out the Cabella's Elk Hunter by Danner. I think the Elk hunters are lighter too.......I have NEVER worn a boot with more support for tough terrain , or a warmer boot in cold weather!...........
For years, I used L.L.Bean Maine Hunting boots..............I wish I could turn back the clock!!
I have the shorter Cabela's Elk hunters, 8" I think..........Enough Thinsilate to keep you warm to about 0 degrees F with mild movement, an air bob sole for good traction........It's just a GREAT boot!.
I only change out of these boots, into my Shnee's Hunters, when the conditions get extremely wet and cold.

Thanks TomRay
Those Elk hunter boots by Cabela’s look like a great boot. Thanks for the reply. I am thinking on just going on over to the Danner factory outlet to scope things out and see if they have anything close to the Elk hunter boot you talked about. I live only an hour away. I always appreciate a first hand report from someone who actually uses a product. Thank you so much.

I've had 2 pair of these in last 12-15 years-wore the souls down on both pair -had 1 pair re-souled and still wearing them, you won't find a more comfortable pair of boots around-have never used them for hunting these have been my riding boots for as long as I've owned them-have traded Harley's a couple of times but never the boots-they have really been great boots and have held up very well, money well spent on these,

I bought a pair of these boots when I was in the service. wore them for another 9 years after that. only probs I had was the lining would pull out when when I took them off and the sole wore out. They are high dollar but think they are worth it in the long run. very tough/comfortable

If you go onto the Danner website you can send them back to be re soled, re lined, and on and on depending on what you need done and what you want to spend.

Have had a pair of the Acadia boots resoled three times, don't figure to get a forth. Second time they made the trip back to Oregon, they really did a nice job on them. They replaced the heel counter, and a couple eyelets, as well as a resole. They came back perfect.  Had a pair of the uninsulated low style Acadias and was very happy with them they lasted 5 yrs and three soles. I have a pair of hunting boots with the air bob outsole and it is fantastic on snowy terrain, a bit squirmy on concrete type surface but never slippery.

I'm sold on their boots. One thing I can recommend is to try them on before you buy. Every pair I've purchased ran narrow compared to Redwing, Clark and most other footware I own. About all of mine are the nylon/leather hybrid construction. Don't plan on them stretching much at all. Also plan on them taking a while to soften up, the sole is as stiff as it can be.

A few years ago I bought a pair of the Jackels.  Great light weight boots.  Most comfortable ones.  I am on my second pair now.
If they were not camo sides I would wear them to work.
I have a pair of the Grouse II 's and like them but I think it is time to send them back to new soles and some other work.  i think I have had them for almost 10 years now.
