Tikka rings, confused

I told the guy, at the shop I bought my Tikka from, I would be changing the rings out. He looked at me kind of funny and said"why". I told him that everyone on the forums I went to said they were junk. He replied" I have sold about 40 rifles in the last two years and have had zero problems or complaints on the factory rings". He said he doesn't even carry any Remingtons, due to the Tikkas being so good and having zero issues. I am a little confused. How could everyone be having multiple problems with the factory rings but this guy has had zero problems with 40 guns. I am not trying to start a p@##%^& match. I don't really have enough money left to buy a new set of rings for my rifle due to buying the Tikka, CVA accura, rings and bases for CVA, Leupold for the Tikka and being a poor country boy ;D, so I will have to use them for awhile. I am just a little concerned I may have trouble at the wrong time. What kind of things should I look for on these rings. Thanks, Don

what about  adding a  third ring for insurance

should be lots  of the removed ''junk rings''  laying around out there

bet  you could find some cheap  and double them up

in  fact  i think i may do that with my  t3 in 25-06

some one pm me  and donate  your ''junk rings''  to  me and  the OP

we will  let you know how it works out

I guess I am one of the "uninformed"; I've been using the "junk" T3 factory rings for 4 years now without a problem :o. Seriously, I've not had an issue with the Tikka's ring set with an aluminum or steel tubed scope mounted. "45/70" may have the solution that will give you peace of mind or get you an extra set of rings at least. If you don't trust them from the outset, you'll likely never be satisfied. If you decide to get rid of them, I'll be glad to pay the shipping to my address :)

 It seems I didn't know how bad the Tikka rings are either. I have a T3 in 300 WSM, and have fired just over 500 through it. I have not had a problem with the rings or scope, and since its initial sighting-in, I have not made any adjustments to the scope or rings.

I have had couple tikkas and have put Leupold bases and rings on them just for personal preferance. I think I still have the factory rings, one of them I had to drill the screw to get it off the gun so it will need a screw. Ill see if I can find them.

I had a T3 Lite chambered in 300WSM that I shot some a hunted with a little and had zero trouble with the ring set-up from the factory.  I gave the rifle to my Son and he immediately put a set of Leupold standard mounts and taller rings on it (his scope has a 50mm objective bell).  I have heard that the factory rings can fail after much use but don't know that from personal experience.

I can't share how they perform, but I sure don't care for the looks of the cheezy screws, so I didn't use em, bought Tally Lightweights for my 338 WM T3 Lite.

Cheesey looking pretty well describes them. They may well hold up fine. If you are strapped now, use them, they are better than taking on debt. If they fail, upgrade, in the meantime good luck this season.

I was under the impression there was a problem other than looks with these rings. I could probably come up with enough to buy new rings but if they work, I can spend the money on other things. Don

I ditched them from the start. Aside from the DNZ One peices (1") I dont like alumunium mounts for my optics. I use leopold steel bases and rings for my 30mm optics. Im not saying they wouldnt work. It was a risk management decision.

Deffinately risk management.

A $600 rifle married to a $400 scope without spending $40 something on good quality rings, is crazy.

If the rifle is a .243 with a $25 tasco, then maybe I could see using factory rings....maybe

I will agree in a "risk management situation", you might change the rings. In the same tone, you might want to use the Leupold removable mounts so you can carry a spare scope for risk management or a spare rifle. I was under the impression that there were ring failures and not just astectics issues. I am not trying to get anyone worked up, just trying understand the issues with these rings. Thanks, Don

Don,

If you search for rings selecting just the Tikka and Sako forum from the list, you'll see what folks have to say about the factory T3 rings, I think the biggest complaint is the screws being soft, many also had accuracy issues until they swapped them out with better rings.
