.41 rem mag?
« on: September 20, 2009, 04:31:48 PM »
What's been you're most accurate powder and loads? I'm using H110 20.5grs with a 210gr sp rem, rem case, LP mag cci primer and med factory crimp. I get about 3 to 4" 50 yd groups 6 shots most will be inside 2" but it seems I always get some kind of flier before all six shots and its not a certain cylinder, the flier is just random probably me but might be the powder. I've never tried any other powder yet. I have tried several other bullets including 210gr XTP and 180 gr barnes, accuracy about the same as the rem sp. Not unhappy just curious if the powder might help to tighten groups. Ive heard the H110 is the fastest but also the touchiest of the powders. I ran out of H110 so thinking of trying something new. I've tried several factory loads using hard cast bullets with similar results so 3" maybe just the best me and the gun can do. Just wondering if any of you noticed a differences changing from the H110? My gun is a RB 6.5" I've shot both a 2x scope and standard red dot and now have a Burris FF red dot no real difference in accuracy at 50yds. Thanks for any replies.

you are in the ball park with loads and accuracy that I get but I'm just not that good of a shot with handguns. Mostly these days I practice at 25-30 yds for defensive shooting - in case of bear issues.

The most accurate loads I had were with a remnant can of AL8 and some unknown cast bullets at moderate velocities. Was pretty frustrated to find a really good load with obsolete powder and garage sale bullets!

Maybe some of the more proficient 41 mag fans will chime in as several claim very good accuracy.  You might try some 4227 powder or 2400. You won't get quite as much velocity but I believe Ken Waters in Pet Loads found good accuracy with them. I use 4227 with some 250 jacketed bullets I get from a guy in Bend Oregon - see new products forum and look for Uncle Joe.

I have been using W296 for my .41 mag loads and it is pretty much the same as H110. I just started using the 210gr Speer GDHP bullet in some target practicing and I'm quite please with the accuracy. I have been shooting my marlin rifle and ruger blackhawk hunter using this bullet, and it shoots great out of both guns. I have thought of trying a different powders, like Lil Gun or 2400 but W296 works just fine for me.....

With my current S&W and Marlin 41 Mag I am shooting IMR 4227 and a 210 Gr. XTP.  This combo is giving me great accuracy in these two guns.  I have tried 110 in these two but the groups are not as good as the 4227.

I have had a couple of Contender 41 Mag barrels over the years that shot the 110 way better than the 4227.

Those are the only two powders I have tried in the 41.
