"Bow season to begin"
« on: September 28, 2009, 11:54:55 PM »
Just wondering if everyone is ready for the regular opening day of archery season on deer October 1rst?  I'm trying to decide which tree to get into. I had success last year on opening day for the first time ever in over 20 years of bow hunting. The woods I will probably hunt is surrounded by corn fields and the deer activity really gets good after the crops are harvested. Good luck to everyone this deer season.....

Dinny: best of luck to you...and a BIG thank you for the job you're doing over there.

I seldom bow hunt my old home stomping grounds any more--tags just plain cost too much now that I'm an out-of-stater.  I do go home for ML season as mentioned on another IN thread.

Best of luck to all.  Stay safe if you go up a tree!!

I managed to arrow a buck Wednesday evening at about 7:30 pm. It was not a perfectly placed shot, it was right on, but a little back of the lung/liver area. The deer bolted into the CRP field about 100 yards and then just stopped for a couple of minutes. The buck then slowly walked away into taller weeds and disappeared from eyesight. It was starting to get dark so I backed out till this morning at 7:30am and started looking for my arrow and blood. I looked around where I took the shot for a little while, and found nothing then headed where I last saw the buck. There was no sign of the deer or any blood to be found and it was starting to rain. I went to where the deer in the area like to bed, which is a buffer zone between a corn field and a creek. I walked slowly about 200 yards just following deer trails through the weeds and no luck. Now I went towards the creek and walked back through the tree line bordering the creek, heading back the way I came. After about 50 yards I found him lying dead. It turned out to be a young 8 point, that probably would dress out about 135 to 140 pounds. So I got lucky on finding this deer, I looked for him 2.5 hours and he is at the processers now. I knew the arrow placement would be fatal, but while looking for this deer I found no blood at all. There was plenty of blood on the inside tho. The deer went probably all together, about 300 yards. This how my day went this Thursday Oct.8 and I was soaked to the bone, but glad I found the deer......

I don't believe it at all!  ;D :D  It never happened unless we see pics posted in our Hunting Pics Topic. ;) Lol!

BTW, Way to go the extra mile to find your deer.  Just as Lonny, I feel there are a few too many hunters that get lazy and the coyotes get too many free meals.  They should have to work for it.

Congrats, Dinny
