Anyone hunt with one? Whats your experience with them? I've read they have a tendenacy to shift POI.

I had an R1 synthetic in 30-06 for a yearish.  It was a beautiful rifle, built like a tank but light and nice carrying.  It wasn't a great shooter, best I could get consistently was 1.5-2" with good reloads, I did get some MOA groups but it was an unusual day to see that.  The trigger was about 7lbs.  The other thing I didn't care for was exactly what you mentioned, the POI shifted almost everytime I pulled the forend off to clean it (and you should do it everytime it gets wet).  Not a big change, 1/2 to an inch, but enought to drive me nutty.  It's gone now, I got a custom 7600 in .270 which is on it's way out as well because it just won't do what i want.  Gotta say that it's hard to find an accurate enough pump or semi when you have Tikka's, Savage's and Encore's that shoot 1/2 MOA with good quality reloads as your benchmark. I guess it all depends on what you expect and want out of a rifle...

smong, IME the browning BAR is about the most accurate semi-auto sporting rifle. Of course it has it's own set of problems. As does the BLR & the BPR.

Guess compared to a good bolt gun everything else falls short on relialabity any accuracy. If you can get a round into the chamber on a mauser bolt gun you can cam it shut and shoot it.  Trouble is I just don't like bolt guns.

The Browning is going to be my next 'try' at being happy with a semi.  I saw a Short-Trac .308 at the range this year shooting easy MOA with cheap factory ammo.  i was very impressed as the guy put 2 mags worth under a quarter at 100 without letting it cool down more than a couple minutes.  Couldn't even hold the barrel it was so hot but the group was a small vertical oval. 
My hunting buddy has a BAR light-weight 'single shot semi' that has been back and forth to factory a couple times now so I'm leery of the new Portugese BAR but would love to find an old real FN version...
For my fast action rifle now, I have a Japanese .358 BLR that continues to amaze me with it's accuracy.  I sold a similar BLR in .308 that I couldn't make shoot.   Oh well, playing with different rifles is half the fun for me.
