I inherited a old crack shot...(I mean FAVORITE)

I used to "play" with this one when I was a kid, my dad used to "play" with it when he was a boy as well!!  It had its barrel plugged for my entire life. The hammer and firing pin was broken when my father was a boy sometime around the mid 40's.

Today I got to cleaning it up and knocked the plug out of the barrel and began cleaning. its really not that bad!!  Quite a bit of rifling remains!! I took it apart and after much persuasion the broken firing pin was removed. I made a new one and installed it. the hammer is broken at the spur. So I either need to find a new one or weld something on to this one and reshape it.

I headed out in the back yard with a couple bullets... ALL went bang!!!  WOW, this thing hasn't been fired on more than 60 years!!!!

Sorry no pics, but it cleaned up really well. I just had to share....

those little crackshots are the neatest little single shots ever made in my opinion.

I picked one up for $50 earlier this year.  The outside is rough, it looked like someone used a ball peen hammer on the right side of the receiver, and the lever pivot screw is replaced by a machine screw, but the bore is good.  I jury-rigged an ancient 3/4" pistol scope onto it and took it to the range.  Once I got it sighted-in at 50 yd., I shot for group.  I couldn't believe it grouped 5/16" at 50 yd. with Winchester High Speed ammo.  I haven't quite matched that since, but I've shot under 1/2" enough to know it wasn't a fluke.  One of these days I've got to take a picture and post it.

Always wanted one.  Hope you enjoy yours as much as I've always thought I would enjoy one.  At least I think that's what I mean..........

I bought one of the revival Favorites a few years ago because it reminded me of the one Dad had in the barn when I was a kid.  It stayed with the farm.  It is not the nicest .22 I have, or the most accurate.  But I often take it when I go for a walk in the woods just because it reminds me of being a kid again.

just curious, what is the diff twixt the favorite and the crackshot other than the name on the buttplate?

The frame is made for the barrel to sit on top on the crackshot and the barrel slides into the favorite , and the way the butt stock fits the frame is different.

Had several Favorites over the years and they were always fun to tinker with.   Sold the last one I had in excellent shootable condition about a dozen years ago at a garage sale for $250.   When I moved last spring I took the last one I had set aside for restoration (just parts in a box) and tossed it in the trash.  It would have required just too much work to get into safe shooting condition again.

Shouldn't be too hard to fix the hammer, and you could always sleeve the barrel if the rifling is gone.  Also, keep in mind they are not designed to handle the hotter modern ammo.

Surprises me that we didn't have any of them on the ranch while I was growing up.   Our main line 22's were Winchester 1890's and 1906's (from the late 40's on that I was there for anyway).

That is one that I've always had a hankerin for.  Yours looks in pretty nice shape CW.  Most I see at gunshows are in worse shape or priced to high to stop and hold.  DP

The remake like I have has some diecast parts and is not as nice as the original.  Mine has walnut wood on it, but the last ones I saw had bland hardwood.  I can't afford an original either, but do like taking a walk in the woods with the remake.
