heres the deal...

i have an old model super blackhawk in 44 mag.  i sent the cylinder off to tom merideth of tm stockworks to be reblued.  I've waited now and i was worried maybe he didnt get it in the mail so i called him and the number is disconnected... as in maybe he's out of business?  so now i dont have a cylinder.  i called ruger and they wont replace the cylinder without first converting it with their safety features.  i dont want this.  the post office wont give me my insurance money because i cant get a hold of tm stockworks to see if he recieved the package.

so... does anyone have any ideas, or better yet an extra unfluted cylinder laying around.

I have been through this before with a custom rifle maker........had my gun, along with thousands of dollars worth of others, and he flipped a screw, went bankrupt and shut his doors. There could be any number of explanations; I'd send a registered letter, return receipt requested and ask what the deal is. If he's reputable he'll get with you and make it right.

If no answer, or if he signs for it and doesn't acknowledge it, or refuses to sign, then you ( or someone else) need to show up on his doorstep and get your cylinder back. If still no luck, go through the State bar, find an attorney, and get the attorney to send him a nasty letter; most attys will charge a nominal fee (my state its $35) for a consultation and letter. If he is bankrupt, and shut his doors, moved, etc., you are out of luck. You can sue him, but if he's bankrupt, your finished.....and suing is way more than the cost of the cylinder.

Don't know the guy, but best of luck to you.

last i heard they'd to the conversion, and ship the gun asn all your old parts back int eh same box, and that the conversion IS easily reversable (swapping parts back in)

you might want to research what's actually involved, and or talk to someone who has had the conversion done to their own gun (lotta CAS shooters in that boat).    might not be as onerous as you think...

all this is simply something to keep in consideration,  IF it turns out to be the case, that you're outta luck with getting your cylinder back from the gunsmith...
