Noon Sept 3 yet another crossbow vote.
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:01:41 PM »
Well since well enough cannot be left alone yet another crossbow vote will be taken on Sept 3 at noon in HArrisburg.  Weaners proposal will be the only action taken.  With the previous vote taken in July going 4-3 in favor of Weaners propasal and the placement of commissioner Malone making it a full house it looks to be a 4-4 vote.  Malone during an interview stated his favor for full inclusion.  In the case of a tie no action will be taken and the regs will stand at least for the 09-10 season.  If Weaners proposal wins then the current regs will change and the reg book given with every license will be worthless.

I will be withholding my personal opinions on this subject and will be watching this thread like a hawk so please keep it civil no matter which side you fall on.

Let me start off by stating that I hunt with both rifle and compound bow. I don’t have a problem with cross bows; in fact it could be the gateway for my wife to start her big game hunting career. She doesn’t like the cold rifle season, and she doesn’t like shooting any thing bigger than my .223. She tried shooting compounds but doesn’t like the hold back, sounds like a job for the crossbow. Plus if she wants she can also use it during the rifle season. The bigger issue here is the total lack of leadership within the game commission. Flip flopping from one thing to another faster than the season changes. Like I stated before, soon you will need to start hunting with a lawyer. How is the common weekend hunter to know if he is in violation of a law?  Maybe he can check the web site before every trip afield? Or maybe we could shake up the commission to get some decision makers on the board. This nonsense with flip flopping at the will of special interest groups, and gray areas like displaying your back tag, has to come to an end .how can you have a vote on regs. That you haven’t even given a season to try out yet! Wake up pa. This commission is not looking out for your interests. Its just Harrisburg politics as usual, which in my opinion, have no use in wildlife management. Remember its about the critters, and the seasons to control their population.

Looks like crossbows can be used the entire season.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today voted down a proposal that would have placed restrictions on crossbow use for the 2009-10 seasons.  The 4-4 tie vote is not sufficient to give the proposed rulemaking the final adoption needed, so the previously approved regulations governing the use of crossbows for the 2009-10 seasons – as outlined in the 2009-10 Digest – will remain in effect.

On July 9, by a vote of 4-3, the Board gave preliminary approval to regulatory changes to restrict the use of crossbows for the upcoming fall hunting seasons. Following the July 9th vote, the proposed rule-making was reviewed by the state Office of Attorney General and published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on Aug. 22.
