45 Colt Carbine question
« on: September 26, 2009, 04:23:45 PM »
I looked at a 45 Colt Carbine this past week and I am considering buying one.  But after I got home I wondered.  If I send it in for an accessory barrel, will I need a new forearm?  Or will it work just fine?

Thanks all for the help.

The Colt Carbine forend has the same barrel channel as all other forends, H&R doesn't make forends with different barrel channels, all barrel channels except for a few on some shotguns forends are identical.

Thanks for the help.  My main concern was that the forearm screw would be in a different location.  Again, Thanks.

Nope, ALL modern, current made H&Rs are the same, even the 12ga USH and 10ga forends have the same hole position and will fit on other rifles and shotguns, not the other way around tho.  ;)

I added a 357 Magnum and 28" 12GA to my 45 colt Carbine.  The forearm fits the new barrels fine.

I was thinking about the 30/30 and one of ther 20 inch open sight barrels, particularly the 22 hornet or 22 Rem as additional barrels.

Yep they will fit just fine, I have handies from .22 to .45-70 and a shotgun, I swap parts around all the time. ;D

Same here, .17M2 to 500S&W which is the largest of all rifle barrel,  ALL forends including the BC Carbine forend fit them just fine, there's very little difference in barrel diameters at the forend, Superlight barrels have a little more space in the forends, but even the 500S&W and 308 bull barrel take the same forend as the Superlight. If you look at the H&R retail parts price list, there are no forends offered that have special barrel channels in them other than those for the USH and 10ga, the TDC forend also has the same barrel channel, but it's relieved a little at the spacer, those are the only differences.

Thanks all.  I have owned several Handi's over the years, and own several now.  But I have only ever bought one barrel from the accessory program.
