Quality of the Redhawk over time??
« on: October 16, 2009, 04:22:39 AM »
I've been looking for a used Redhawk 44mag for as long as I can remember.  I may have found a good used one, but it's pretty old.  I see in a lot of threads where guys talk about guns made between year XX and year YY were made better or worse than the ones today.  The used redhawk I'm considering now was made in the mid 80's give or take a little and shows little if any signs of wear.  Is a redhawk of that age as good or better or worse than the redhawks of today?

I bought mine used in 1996. It is from the mid 80s. I have shot it A LOT with full powered loads .  It is still in great shape.

I bought my Redhawk new in 1983, it's a great revolver, tight tolerances and very accurate. I would not hesitate to buy a mid 80's Redhawk.

They're built like a tank. Find one you like and go with it. You won't be disappointed.

Great guns!!!!!!

My steady diet is a 310gr LBT ahead of 19grains of AA#9 out of my 5.5" stainless RH.

Just like my Security Six, I'd pick up another one in a minute, given the oppertunity and available bucks.

Buy, shoot and ENJOY!!!

Keep em coming!

I'm really, really, really glad to read these reviews because I may have that used one on the way.  I've been looking for a 5 1/2 redhawk 44mag for so many years I had to jump on this one when I saw it.  Finally my Puma 92 has a little buddy.

I don't think Ruger ever had a "bad run" of Redhawks.  I have a 7.5 inch SS Redhawk with an Ultra Dot red dot sight mounted.  Bought new in 1983 I think.  The gun had a little more play in lock-up then I like, but a good trigger, so I figured I would try it.  I don't know how many thousand rounds later, still seems a little loose, but the gun  shoots like a house a fire with almost anything I feed it.  It has accounted for wild boar, a black bear, whitetail bucks and does, coyote, and all sorts of lesser game, including grouse and rabbits for the camp pot.  Figured out a long time ago its to big for hip carry, but just fine in an accross the chest rig.
