Erratic arrows
« on: August 25, 2009, 04:56:37 AM »
Bought a dozen Gold Tip XT hunters in size 3575. All but one flew well. Bought 1/2 doz. of same in size 7595 and have one that also fishtails. I shoot a Mathews Outback at 70 lbs, 29 in. draw with QAD fall away rest and string loop. I have changed the nocks, tips (not inserts) and refletched the 3575 to no avail. What causes this problem ? I ordered the arrows cut to length with inserts installed. I fletch them my self with Blazers. I don't think I can remove the inserts or nock inserts from a carbon arrow.

First I have to ask....is it the same arrow every time?  Have you marked it somehow so that you know?  If it's the same arrow every time then I'd have to say something in the manufacture of that shaft is different.  They're not perfect.

Yes it's the same arrow every time. All the others in the same batch fly true. What ! Not perfect ? But the advertising says........    ;)

I was going to ask the same question earlier but I deleted it.

I would just exclude the offending arrow from my hunting arrows.

If poi is the same as the others maybe for practice it will be okay.

There may be a glob of glue inside the shaft from the inserts that is causing it to be unbalanced.

At least the others shoot well so you know it's not the bow.

You might want to bring that to the attention to your arrow supplier, to see if they will stand behind it.  Gold Tip ar normally first rate.

Number all your arrows.  Eliminte the "flyers" as he said.  Also, check yor vanes twist rate.  I went from thin carbon to fat shafts a number of years ago and had nothing but problems.  No consistency at all.  Went to right helical an now they fly nice and true. Changes your drop @ longer ranges but you can adjust your site for that.

I number my arrows and, as my archery instructor taught me many years ago, make them compete for the honor of going into the hunting quiver.  ;D ;D

It sounds like these guys have much archery experience, and listen to them. One thing I have found and everyone will say the same if not they have no idea what they are doing, EVERY ARCHERY SETUP IS DIFFERENT NO MATTER WHAT. You can have two identical bow's set up the exact same they will shoot different, the main reason is everyone shoots a little different it's our body structure none of us are the same. I have severe problems with Blazer vanes clearing the cables and shelf on my Mathews DXT, and would not work at all with my whisker biscuit. The biscuit was my favorite rest but I had to go to a Ripcord drop away. I have fallen in love with the ripcord since. I have to agree with these guys if it is the same arrow every time don't let it even look at you're hunting quiver.
