"Harshing my mellow"

For example, the fifth day of rain during this hunting trip is harshing my mellow.

Whos" willing to be first/pony up/ volunteer/take charge/sign on the line/accept responsibility/risk it all.  Look at the Declaration of Independence and check the largest signature.  A man named John Hancock led and nothing stopped him once he made up his mind.  How many of us today would sign that paper with full knowledge of what it might cost.
The answer lies in Arlington and more Americans are laid there almost daily having given the same answer given by John Hancock.  I remember all the reasons to say no, but I remember almost shaking  with terror/pride when I volunteered and swore in.  Dad knew how scared I was but left the decision totally to me.  No coercion or cajoling, just an example of what a man could be.
