Getting Ready

I know many hunters here are bow hunting now. But I am primarily a gun hunter so I am getting my knives sharp and my guns sighted in preparing for the Nov gun opener. In fact I am loading some 44 mag today for my Marlin lever action and my Ruger Red Hawk. The muzzle loader is ready to go and I still have to get my huntin clothes ready. Gosh I had better put it in the big cog.

Schoolmaster,
   I do what I can to prepare while I'm here vacationing in Iraq. ;) I use online scouting as much as I can. I use Google Earth and Google Maps to identify key ares for stand placement.  This year I will get home only 10 days before the gun season starts, so I can't waste much time scouting from the ground.

  I am getting ready for gun season as well. Taking a few guns out double ckeck sites,(also scared bow hunters) Then have a nieghborhood pik-nic to try and put on some winter wieght ;)

Hey I like that idea of bulking up for winter. Helps you keep warm. Dinny you don't have to be in Iraq to make use of the internet to scout. I use it alot. Isn't it great? Loaded up a 100 rounds of 44 mag today that should take care of sighting in chores and the hunting season. Also loaded 3 boxes for my son's .308, he is taking to Wisconsin. i have to get my hunting bag ready and packed with all the stuff I can't hunt without.

Now you guys have me pumped!  Although I am now a resident of MI, I still hunt back home with my brother in southern IN for black powder season.  I hadn't let that thought rise to the top just yet--too much bow time here in MI yet--but after reading your posts, I am getting stoked!!  We stay in a square log cabin on nearly 300 acres of hills and hollers, eat way too much, stay up way too late playing cards and lieing to each other, sleep in way too late, but inspite of our hunting incompetencies we sometimes kill a deer or two!    :)  BUT it's all great fun!

You guys are workin at this too hard.   ;D  I'll just go out on the back porch, strip nekid,  :o and get in the hot tub.  When the one I want comes out into the field behind the house, I can rest the contender on the edge of the tub to take the shot.  I'll ride out on the 4 wheeler after I dry off, and get some drawers on and take care of business.  Man!  I hope I don't forget the drawers part again this year.   ::)

Hey Lonny: I hunt in Crawford county mostly these days.  I make it down to my brother's for the week muzzle loader season opens.  SOmetimes on the way home I take I65 to Scottsburg, then cut over through Salem and on to French Lick where my parents still live.  Salem has sure grown since I live down there!

We usually make a day of running down to New Albany/Clarksville area to visit Bass Pro when ML hunting.  I should contact Dinny to see if he wants to meet us there some time.

I don't hunt during gun or bow season any more--IN has too many licenses you have to buy to chase the same animal in the fall.  I like just having a 'deer license' up here and use it until the tags are gone regardless of weapon season.  So I just wait until ML season and head back home.

  My truck knows its way to BPS all by itself, kinda like autopilot :D It's not but a 10-15 min drive. Now that you have given me an excuse to go ;), I will definitely meet you there. Have you eaten upstairs at the restaurant?  They have excellent key lime pie. ;)

Lonny: If you behave and your wife gives you a "kitchen pass" we'd enjoy your company too. :D ;D ;)

I'm thinking I'll be in town thru Thanksgiving, we should PM eachother for the finer details when the time gets closer.

Dinny: last December was my first time to eat upstairs, and the key lime pie was a smash hit!  I sort of grew up on key lime pie having lived in Key West as a little boy.  It's still my favorite.

I will email you through GBO later in November to give you and Lonny details.

Hey I will be there, not sure about buying though. I was in the Army, I know how you eat ;D

I have never ate in there, but been to BPS many many times. I work in Jeffersonville, so I drive I65 a bunch. Sometimes its hard not to hit the exit ramp ;)
