Bushnell scopechief?
« on: October 01, 2009, 05:32:06 PM »
I just bought a Savage 111 package in .300 win mag.  The scope that came mounted on it is a 3x9 40mm Bushnell scopechief.  I've got a couple of Bush trophies on other rifles, but no experience with the scopechief.  Will it stand up to the recoil on a .300?  Should I upgrade, and throw the scopechief on a .22?
Any opinions/experiences would be appreciated.

Nope, it actually looks like the Bushnell trophy 3x9x40 with the exception of a screw that on the adjustment ring (maybe to lock it into place when set to  a certain magnification?)

Hmmm I dind't know they still used the "Scopechief" name  ??? the one I have is from the 1960's or 70's, it's a 3x Scopechief:-

It's on a Husqvarna Model 46 in 9.3x57.

I think they tried to sneak the Scopechief name back in there a few years ago on some scopes that didn't resemble the older scopes with that name. I would guess the newer ones are similiar to Trophy or Banner models. The older Scopechiefs still have a following.

The older Scopechief models were the top of the Bushnell line, and good scopes for their time. Unfortunately, Bushnell doesn't back any warranty on them, which is why I no longer buy their products. If they had treated me half way decently when I sent in a Scopechief IV for repair, I would not be turned off like I am. Amazing what a little customer service can do-good or bad.

Ha! I'm an idiot!  Just checked the book that came with the gun, and it's a Bushnell Sharpshooter, not scopechief.  Doh!  Sorry guys

You may not have to worry about deciding to upgrade. That .300 may scramble the innards of that bottom-of-the-line scope and make the decision easy.

I have a modern Bushnell Scopechief 3-9x40 that was made in the late '90's.  It is suprisingly clear and fine for a rimfire.  I don't like the fact that the rear eyepiece moves when the power is adjusted.  It makes my scope covers rotate and sometimes point straight down which forces me to twist them alone to a different point.  To me, that's too much to be messing with while I'm hunting.  Scope will be in the Classifieds soon.

Thanks, Dinny

I had one on a 22 rimfire in the 80s.  It was OK when a squirrel was in a tree, but let one get on the ground and I could not find it in the scope because of its poor optics.  Mine was a 4X in a one inch tube.  Don't have any idea where it went so I must have given it away.
