I keep looking at these on auction sites and I'm really tempted, but.....??? :?

Anyone here have one or have had one? How about handled one?  How's fit and finish compare with the Browning 1885? General quality?  Price?  I've seen new in the box ads for $600 but a used one would be fine if I could find one.

They are/were made in Japan by the same folks who make the Browning Low Walls and High Walls and made to the same standards of fit and finish. I've seen a couple of them and certainly they were fully up to the standards of my Browning LWs and HWs.

After having owned one for competitive shooting, I can say the accuracy is only below average. Many other shooters I have shot with and owned these have had mixed results from selling them to having them rebarreled. IMHO they suffer from bad triggers hard to fix (although I was shown how to do one easily w/o teardown) to sloppy chambers. As a hunting gun, go ahead. As any type of serious target work, pass is my $0.02. MI-shooter

M1, I agree about below average accuracy, I experienced the same thing with mine. I dont think it even shoots well enough to hunt with! Do you know who your friend's used to re-barrel their guns?
Thanks,

A 'smith local to them, not a nationally known type. Technically, they were relined using a Bentz chamber. Afterwards, they did shoot better, but not good enough for serious target work. Most used them for local Silhouette matches of the 100yd flavor.

That's really strange. All of my Browning HWs and LWs easily shoot MOA even the .45-70 BPCR when scoped.

My LW .243 shoots most every thing into groups of 0.4"-0.8". Some better but hardly anything worse.

 I can live with less than MOA accuracy if the price is right.  Any of you know of one for sale? If they are that bad, maybe I can find one used.

GB,
My 223 LW shoots about like you 243! I have a contender carbine w/
bullberry barrel in 22 that will shoot one hole at 50 yds. Thats why I was
disipointed with the 1885 22. And these guns or not cheap!

I was looking at my 22 and noticed that it didn't seem to have a crown.
Also the crown seemed to be crude. I recrowned the barrel and took it to the range yesterday. I tried 5 brands or 22's from some $3.99 suff to eley
benchrest. to my surprise 3 of the 5 shot 1/4" groups. Including CCI velocitors. I had talked to 3 people about rebarreling this gun, so I am thrilled.

Sounds more like what I've come to expect from these guns. Glad you found the problem with yours. Pretty much everyone I know who has them brag on the way the shoot.
