Polymer grip Single-Action 44 Special
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:59:42 AM »
With all the plastic "black" guns that Ruger is making these days, how about Ruger taking some of that technology and putting it into their Single-Action revolvers?

Heresy ?

With black polymers, it should be no problem to create a perfect color match to a nicely blued Blackhawk revolver.  It used to be done with aluminum before, but polymer is very strong and long-lasting too.   The 44 Special cartridge comes to mind as the perfect match for this semi-polymer, light-framed, small-framed(think flat-top), big bore revolver.

How about it?  If not Ruger, does anyone offer such a grip-frame already?

It'd be simple heresy as you call it.  With modern design double actions and auto pistols, polymer is fine.  With such a classic, time proven and time honored design of the single action revolver, polymers is just wrong.  Could it be done?  Certainly for the smaller chamberings but for the larger chamberings where pressure is a big concern.
As far as the weight issue on this...if such a miniscule amount of weight is such an issue, maybe the money spent on the gun would be better spent on exercise equipment and the range time be used for a fitness regime.
