Long story short here if I can,I recently recieved on a trade,an as new in box KP-1 in SS/black furniture with 50cal,45-70 and 300mag. Aside from the usual take it apart and see what makes it tick
.... and after inspection,it is as new in box,no scratches and very clean etc.. BUT..when trying to install the 300mag bbl, after inserting the pin, when you try to close it, the extractor rides against the fireing pin area and as it does that, the extractor compresses the spring and that little cross bar thing..(don't laugh) but that cross bar "thing" is supposed to just miss 2 latches farther down in the reciever body. Well, they make enough contact, that it will not allow me to close the breach. Now those of you who own a KP-1,would you please have a look see at your rifle and let me know if my assumption is correct or not......I think that the face of the extractor is too thick (out of tollerance) and could be filed, sanded etc down a few thousandths to correct this problem. The rifle setup is out of warrenty as I am the second owner and do not wish to send it out for this simple (I think) problem. Even the local smith will charge more than I can afford at this time as work is failing sadly this year. A penny for your thoughts would be apreciated.
