Making a pile of 270gr SAA
« on: September 28, 2009, 04:29:29 PM »
From the thread "Wheel weights",thought best to start a new one.
Got everything out,So far,so good.
The RCBS mold got up to working temperature.
Was hoping not to be another repeat from Saturday.
That was when nothing was going right.Except for the ingots I molded.
The very first bullet out of the 2 gang mold, was very good.
Most of the afternoon, and 2 pots later,about 400/500 (a pile  ;D )
270gr SAA in 45 cal made.
Maybe about 8 rejects.
Sure can't complain about being Monday. :D

The old calibers and guns got the job done

Was looking for a thumbs up smiley but not there.  LOL

It always helps when things go well!  Ya got a nice pile of bullets started, now ya gotta get'em loaded so you can go shoot'em!!!

Hi Frank V !!  ;D
I failed to do a WELCOME for you. :(
Here it is:WELCOME  ;D  ;D  ;D to the board !
Well, back on the net for now.
Will send an email or a real snail-mail letter again.
And 'splain why I'm back on.
Well, a few days ago,did some more 270gr SAAs.
Very few rejects.Of about 140 I cast,about 2-3 were rejects.
(The last several were cast, think it was the silver solder, causing the bullets not to eject from the mold.
Re-smoked the mold.)
Some were a little gray, not shiney.Need to back down on the temp a bit.
Switched to the 45-70 500gr mold. Those sure were nice !.2 rejects from a total of about
160-170.Can't complain.
Supposed to rain here in a few days.So says Dave Bender ch13 in Sac.
Will need to wait it out. Then do some 320gr JDJs in 44 cal.Throw in some 255gr 45s.
Planning to buy a Lee 405gr HB mold.
Maybe next month, the guy I went shooting with in Escalon, has lead for sale.
Has pure and harder lead.Has no tin for sale. But the silver solder I bought, should have
a high tin content.
As those 500gr sure do drain the pot.
You have a good week pard.Don't know when we'll get to Montana. >:(
