Got a small horned buck Saturday (east of Greeley in 95) around 7:30. 2 long shots with the Ultra, and then a poorly sized case stuck, so I used my brother's .243 Handi for the finish. Got the case out, and traded with my brother while he hunted, and no more stuck cases, but he also missed in the wind. There were a lot of big bucks, wish I had waited in a way. Brother never got a good shot off at a doe, so he may go back if his work allows. 20 to 25 pounds meat, I finished cutting this evening. The way licenses are allotted in Colorado, I will be around 66 or 67 when I can draw again. It is taking everyone 5 to 7 years to come up on top. My host is in poor health, so figures he won't be around next time. I will have to cross that bridge when it comes.
I am using 117 Hornady's in front of 7828. Brother used factory Federal with 100 gr. partitions. My .243 uses 100 gr Hornady over H4831. They both seem to shoot well.
BTW, the host and friends favor .270 for "lopes. That size has never appealed to me, but they may be right, small enough, and a high BC
