Oregon has one of the highest unemployment rates in America. "Let's see" Less work, less money coming in to the family household. Not to worry! Our benevolent leaders at state level want to help us poor folks out, and here is one of their solutions to the problem.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Beginning Thursday Oct 1, Oregon drivers will see some new fees when they visit the Department Of Motor Vehicles.

# A two-year tag renewal will climb to $86 up from $54.............32.00 increase.
# A title transfer or replacement will go up to $77 from $55..........22.00 increase
# New license plates jump to $23 from $5.................................18.00 increase
# Custom plates will go up to $100 from $50 for two years............50.00 increase
# A new identification card will also go up to $44.50 from $34.50....10.00 increase.

The higher fees will raise money for improving Oregon roads..........(Yea Right)

I have always hated that creeping California-ism that has extended to Oregon and Washington. The idea that taxation can be unlimited and businesses can be pushed out of the state without consequence is terrible folly.


By the way, is it still illegal to pump your own gas at a gas station in Oregon? I always thought that it was a law to protect highschool students from unemployment, but what is it really? Do Oregonians generally require technical assistance from experts in matters of this complexity?

Yup, Oregon still won't let you pump your own gas.  The people of Oregon have no one to blame but themselves for their problems; they keep electing Dumbycrats.

I'm not sure if some of the new and increased fees mentioned above are those that the voters of Oregon might get a chance to vote down, or not.  They had to collect a bunch of petitions to put it on the coming ballot and I think they made it in spite of their Governor trying to game the system and prevent it.

Here in Washington, our Dumbycrat Governor says she has been trying to resist tax increases, but now she's losing her resolve under pressure from the government employees and other special interest groups.  However, there is going to be an initiative on our ballot to limit the growth of property taxes.  I'm sure the government and media will spend a fortune to convince voters that that would be the end of the world.  Again, voters have no one to blame but themselves.  Keep the Dumbycrats in power and taxes will go up and that is a fact.

What I haven't figured out is how the school systems, city and county governments all started pleading poverty when the economy slowed down, but my property taxes went up, the city sales tax went up, our gas taxes are up--what's up with that?  Don't answer that; I know what's up.  It's just government doing what it always does--wants more money.

Same here the price had doubled for plates. I just got two of my vehicals plates last month. I was told a "Temporay Special Increase in Fees " was need and would be removed in two years.

the only way these idiots in government know how to make money is by raising taxes and fees(which are taxes), they don't have a clue how to make money and if they don't use up all of the budget they have then they lose it so they just keep on spending and raise taxes to cover the losses and everyone cares but them because it's the government mentality, don't you get it ?

Goverment is not susposed to make a profit or a defict---they are not sosposed to support people---they are susposed to support projects that are required for commerce.

years back if the school district wanted a new school or athletic field or pool they would issue a bond for local investors to buy in on the plan, today the school boards just rubber stamp the idea and whole heartedly vote yes to raise the taxes to come up with those funds needed over the next 20-30 years so it never ends. that is just one example of yesterdays government and today's, to me they just don't want to be bothered when it's easier to just up the taxes
