Which scope rings for the Rossi single shot?
« on: October 03, 2009, 02:36:36 PM »
Hello, I have a Rossi singleshot youth rifle in .243 with the factory scope base and I was wondering what height rings worked well with this combo. Any advice would be appreciated.

                                                                            Thanks, Gary

It depends on how big the objective is on your scope and whether or not you want to keep the rear sight installed.  The Rossi pictured in my avitar is a Trivecta with the .243 barrel and a Bushnell Banner 3X9-40 with medium CZ rings.  I still have the rear sight installed, so if I wanted to move the scope further back I'd have to remove the rear sight or get taller rings.  You could probably go with lower rings but then you would have a clearance problem with the hammer.  The Trivecta comes with one of those offset devices you can screw onto the hammer, but with the raised cheek piece I really don't see the need for a lower ring and thus the hammer device.  Up to you though.  Whatever makes you comfortable.  To try things out you might want to get a cheap low and medium ring set, say from Sports Authority for less than $10 each, and see which one you like the best.  Then you can buy a better set later if you feel the need.

I have a 357mag riffle with a simmons pro diamond 4X32 on it with weaver quad lock low rings.you could probably even go with 40mm objective and still be okay. unless Rossi has changed the sweep of the hammer, clearance isn't an issue but you will want a hammer spur. Oh yeah I don't leave the open sights on my rifles.
