New 1/2 scale 1841 6lb
« on: August 04, 2010, 06:10:15 PM »
This is a Cannon Mike 1841 6lb barrel. 29 inches of 1144, 1 5/8 bore & 110 lbs. Set in a naval carriage that was narrowed 3/4" and the trunion pockets were enlarged to accommodate the 1.75" trunions.  Armourer 77 is helping out with his very timely new trunion caps.

Well worth waiting for Bruce, even my wife would let it live in the living room.  Very nice barrel and carriage. Impossible to see where you reworked it.  Now if you can resist the calls for painting the carriage...

Thanks for the kind feedback.  :)  Like all our pieces, this has it's own story.  It was bought several years back with a different barrel. I never before saw anything like this for sale. IT WAS WAY COOL.
I read somewhere that cast barrels with liners where VERY strong. Great I thought till I found that a magnet wouldn't stick to the casting. Scraping some paint away, I found the cast portion of the barrel was possibly aluminum or more accurately "un-knoweum". Hmmm...maybe this is a better living room cannon then a shooter. The 29" barrel weight was only 38 lbs and has DS stamped on the muzzle? Never lit a fuse in it and it guarded the living room quietly for years. Then I had the good fortune to stumble on this site and learned more. Worked to get something together for the Floyd shoot but the barrel arrived just a little late.  Can't take any credit for building the carriage. Just that I didn't screw it up when I had to narrow it and enlarge the trunion pockets. A really nice fellow that goes by the name of Little Seacoast just sent me 50 1.5" Fox balls and now I need to get up with Dom for implements. One day you guys are going to see a picture of it in the front bucket of the prime mover heading out back to shoot over the pond. The prime mover is my RV that looks like a backhoe.

A fine looking rig, VA rifleman.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.
