Need info on NEF Rimfires.
« on: September 24, 2009, 02:09:43 PM »
Looking to buy a NEF rimfire sportster. I know that Remington bought out H&R and moved some manufacturing to NY. Are all H&R handy rifles built in NY, or are some still built in Massachusettes? Also do all rimfire barrels have microgroove rifling? Is the barrel program still going on for rimfire rifles? Having a hard time locating any of the rimfire calibers. What is the price range of these rifles? If anyone has any information on any of this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome! All H&R's are built in NY now but a lot of Mass built ones are still sitting on the shelves. I just bought a brand new .45 Colt Carbine that was built in Mass a few weeks ago off the shelf. The Sportsters do not have microgroove rifling but if you can find a Versa Pack (now out of production) those did. The barrel accessory program is still going on for the rimfires. I think I paid $130 for my .22LR Sportster last year from Wal-Mart. It is an excellent shooter, I love it.

Thanks Doublebass 73 for your information. All I have to do is find one in my area. I went
to Gander Mt. to see if they could bring one in for me and they couldn't even find one
in there computer. I notice that the 17 cal has the bull barrel which i like, and the 22lr and the 22 mag have the sporter barrel. Do they sell the 22 mag with the bull barrel?

Welcome! They used to as the Ultra Varmint with laminated stock, but it was discontinued in 2008.  :-\

thanks Tim, that's too bad 22mag in a heavy barrel like the 17 set up would seem to be a great
rifle. Oh well just have to keep looking in my area for a new or used rimfire H&R of any sort.

Mine came from H&R with a micro-groove barrel and unfortunately a youth rear stock. It also drives tacks as well.

I would call H&R because the .22 WMR 22" bull barrel on the accessories page, listed at $70.00
