Oldman60, you've gotten your wish. I am the creator of the Modern Rem Mod 8/81 Carbine. At least I am the latest, I've found 2 other versions since I first posted about my 25Rem conversion.
Luckily I am a rather laid back individual with rather thick skin, otherwise I probably wouldn't waste my time replying to your disbelief. Do you honestly think that I would take the time to be involved with posting all the info and pics on 2 other forums for no reason other than to waste someone elses time looking at them? Much less, would I go thru the process of making some sort of carbine and then posting about it, then make several more for others, all if it didn't work the 1st time?
I have 5 conversions out there at this time, all of which function flawlessly. My 25, 81Police's and Pack's 35s in Model 8, and 2 more 81s in 300Sav. One in Arkansas and one in Wisconsin. Jim81 is the moniker of the guy in Arkansas and owns the one pictured with my 25 in the black case. I have 2 more in the works, just haven't had time to get to them yet.
To answer your question about how I made it work, you may need a little more understanding of the mod 8/81 than you apparently have. Think outside the box. We know that the springs and jacket reinforcement have to stay in the configuration designed by Mr. Browning. However, the jacket unscrews from the barrel jacket extension. Viola, the solution is so simple, it's almost funny. It causes a few minor issues, but nothing as complicated as moving the jacket reinforcement.
Here's the link to the video. It's not doctored in anyway, thats me with my own 25Rem conversion at the local range taken with my wife's camera sitting on the bench next to me.

Enjoy and try to ignore my sarcasm above.
