I had my 458 Lott bedded before the stock cracked.

My gunsmith told me that a good bedding job would keep the stock from cracking.  Another approach would be to use crossbolts.  Thus far, with probably 200 rounds down the tube, I've had no problem with the stock on my CZ 550.

I have no problem with my CZ 550 458 american safari lott. It has two bolts in it and the stock is Lamanated.  Well I hope I never do get a broken stock.

I have gone way over with one load. But the stock never cracked. She handed it like she should. I didn't push my luck. I only fired three.

yes jro45 you have a stock that was made after 2007
cz started adding a cross bolt from january 2007 in response to problem with earlier stock cracking up near the pistol grip
my cz was bought in 2005
this I was told by cz in a e-mail during discussion with them concerning my stock
thanks for input

I'm sure that the new stock will have the cross bolts

Has CZ offered top replace the cracked stocks without the crossbolt? I sent them an e-mail asking, and never got a reply. Hopefully, the wimpy 375 H&H will not crack the stock. Seems if you acraglass the recoil plate, then bed the action to the plate, you might be able to forestall it for awhile.

My 375 by SAKO has cross bolts so does my 416 by REM. I can't see a powerful rifle not haveing them.

Cannuck, I ended up putting a laminated hardwood stock on my 458-Lott! I laminated the wood myself and had a fella do the shaping on his machine. I used walnut, cheery, maple and ash wood.

There is also 2 crossbolts in this stock, then glassbedded in addition later and free floated the barrel in front of the lugs.

Cross bolts should be considered mandatory in wood stocks on heavy kicking rifles.  They work.

Glass it, cross bolt it(either internal or regular crossbolts), and relieve a little space behind the tang so it does not contact the wood there.  It will be good to go!  Mine has 500 full house rounds down the tube with no problems.
