better pattern ???

I have a 410 project gun  that I swiped the stock off of for my tamer 20. the barrel had been cut from 26" to 22 1/4 "  . It shoots slugs in 3" groups at 40 yards, my self imposed limit for a 410  but didn't pattern  shot well .  Well today I put the tamer stock on it  got out the tubing cutters and took the barrel down to 20 " dug out a counter sink and reamed the barrel out  good where the tubing cutter left a ridge  removed the  twenty ga shell holder from the stock . I then grabbed a hand full of ammo and took out back first up  A box of remington slugs ....5 slugs into a group about the size of my fist @ 30 paces  that works next up federaL 410 HANDGUN #000 buck   3 rounds.... 12 holes all in a 6 " circle right on top of the slug group    This is the second 410 I have tried this stuff in  with good patterns I am impressed with this buckshot  Next was shot WW hs 3 inch 7.5 shot  wasn't expecting much,  move up to 20 paces  from the board  first shot  nice even pattern    it had wholes in the pattern before  I cut it a  turkey could fly though and not be touched   shot a couple more of those shell and about  a dozen assorted other 410s 20 paces is the max acceptable range  but it  is now throwing nice even patterns I think I'll get one of the truglo sights that snap over the barrel and glue it where I want it  and have a nice brush gun

Good deal!  Sounds like a nice little camper gun.  Iffn you could choke the .410 at all, methinks the max range on that tiny round is @25yds, and your experience [further] confirms my belief #71/2's is about the biggest size pellet that performs [reasonably] well in that .410 bore, altho I am a reloader and would like to try some #7's for kicks and giggles. 

Yeah they're a tad bigger than 7 1/2's (.10inches vs. .095 inches for the 7 1/2's.  #6's are .11in in diameter).

An ounce of 6's consists of @225 pellets, an ounce of #7's about 299 pellets, with an ounce of #7 1/2's having @345-350 pellets.  An ounce of #8's has @408-410 pellets in it.

Also good to know about the .410 slugs and buck shot.  I wonder what a "careful innovator" could make with that round and some properly sized lead wadcutter boolits (for a heavier projectile)?
