1894 Reloading Question
« on: October 12, 2009, 05:14:38 AM »
I have several Remington 110 HP bullets and wanting to load them for plinking in a 1894.  I have an older Hornady book and it doesn't list a rifle load for the .38 Special with 110 gr. bullets.  It does however list a pistol load for them.  Question, will this light bullet shoot OK in the 1894?  If so, any good load suggestions?

You will look a long time for 38 special rifle loads and come up empty handed.  Any 38 special pistol loads, or even 38+P loads that you find will shoot fine in your rifle.

The 38 special case is a little shorter and some rifles may have trouble cycleing them but they will all go with a little jiggling.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

Follow the data for a revolver and you will be fine in your 1894. It may not be the most efficient powder for the longer barrel, but it will be perfectly safe.

I have fired my pet bullseye load. Using a lite charge of Bullseye powder load behind a DEWC bullet for years and years in mine. No problems for me, but the tin cans sure showing some wear.  ::) ;) :D
