Using spitzer bullets in 1895

I want to use spitzer bullets in my 1895. I know that it is unsafe to put these bullets into a tubular magazine and that the bullet I want will make the cartridge too long to cycle anyway. I am content to shoot singleshot. I have always been fortunate to have oneshot kills. My question is this. Is it unsafe from any other angle I have not considered. The bullet will seat at .050in off the lands yet the overall length will be 2.81in rather than the max OAL of 2.55 for 45-70. The extra overall length will be the nose of the bullet. I am NOT going to do anything unsafe so am seeking advice from those who will know. Thanks    Tim

If ya just gotta have a spitzer why not use the new Hornady Leverevoltion bullets with the gummy plastic tips?

If you are loading from the Gate directly into the chamber be aware that this longer unfired cartridge may not clear the port when trying to unload.

I would seat to the max col. and load one in the chamber and one in the magazine. As long as the point of the bullet is not recoiling against a primer there should be no problem unless the recoil is flattening the point of the spitzer in the mag tube.

Ditto.  Been there with an Marlin 1895 .45-70 and Swift A-Frames (not the newer 350g FNs designed for the .45-70).  Loaded fine through the port, would not eject.
