Yamaha 4/4

My friend has a 93 Yamaha bi9g bear 4/4
 He was backing it in his shed on a slope when it died on him. Now it does not want to go into neutral. Consequentlly he cannot start it. Any ideas on how we can get it into neutral or start it other wise.

Should just be able to hold the brake levers and foot brake down and shift it. But then mine's an automatic so shifting is never a problem on it. Might be binding due to the slope so pushing it back and forth a bit while someone tries to shift might relieve the bind.

That BB should be manual shift, no clutch right?  If so, what we've done in the past with those situations is rock it back and forth a bit while working the shift lever.  It is probably just bound up like GB said, and should unlock with a little help.  If not, is it in 4WD or 2WD?  Possibly it could be locked up there for some reason....
