The Hunt Is On

hey everybody

I got in from work at 8:30 this morning. I was sitting in my car glassing the pasture behind my house when I saw movement on the pond levy. I froze on it, it moved again and I realized it was my son out stalking with his bow. I looked to the north down the pasture bottom and saw five or six deer crossing the open ground to get to some acorn grazeing. They were casual and hadn't seen him. 

I called my sons cell phone and left him a voice message that the deer were ahead of him. He already knows they have been working that bottom and will probably come back in the same dirrection when they have cleaned up  that area because there is a community that blocks any further travel. I didn't know if he had his phone. When I came into the house I checked his room and didn't see the phone. I hope he had it on silent/vibrate and checks his messages.

He has been living in Florida the last five years and has spent all his time fishing. He hasn't been hunting in close to eight years, he had on a real good "hungry" to go hunting. He is a good scout and stalker so I am excited while I sit here waiting, fingers crossed. I think I will have a KT toddy and go to bed soon, I just hope I can go to sleep. For me it's 10:00 at night.

By the way, we road around yesterday evening and saw nine bucks in different groups. That got him real fired up!. I will follow up and let you all know if he connects or not. Keep your fingers crossed for him.

Hey everybody;

Just as I finished typing the boy came in. Right after I saw him he spotted a four point. He didn't shoot because it wasn't big enough. He tried to push away from the pack in the end of the pasture by moveing East but he walked into another bunch of deer. They snorted and ran.

He had seen a group of bucks early that came from the acorn patch. He let them move away and started to stalk in another dirrection, that is when he got snorted. A group of does moved to the acorn flat next but the deer that winded him had him cut off from the deli on the hoof. Too many deer in too small a space. He got the edge off a little bit at least. The first time he has been through this pasture so he was just sizeing it up. He hasn't made another plan yet, except to heat up a sausage and bisquet.
