New Encore Member w/ sight question
« on: October 15, 2009, 04:27:32 PM »
Hey guys,
I just bought a t/c encore in 270 win, blued, w/ a synthetic stock. ;D  I took it out and only got ten rounds down range.  I didn't have a problem hitting my target, but felt I could improve my grouping with a different sight setup.  The stock front sight covers up most of my target from 60 yards.  It there a smaller front sight bead or another option?  I don't want a scope.  Thanks guys.

I would agree with you; Encore iron sights could use a lot of improvement but they work.  I don't know of any other sight options.

You say you don't want a scope but I'll tell you what I do anyway.  I install a Warne Maxima Weaver style scope base and use a scope with quick detachable Warne rings.  That way I can easily detach the scope to use iron sights and just as easily put the scope back on and thus have the best of both worlds.

Can you change to using a 6 O'clock Hold where you place your target so that is shows above the sight? i.e So that the bullet hits say 6 inches above the sight.

a 6 oclock hold along with a good peep site will help that quite a bit.  I know one guy who changed his front site to a appature with a cross wire in the front for prcize long range aiming.

Plus 1 on the aperture rear and 6 o'clock hold.  These 64 year old eyes love it. :D

Thanks guys for the suggestions.  Does anyone have experience with the Williams FP on encores?  It looks nice and inexpensive.

Check with Ken Light.  He manufactures hooded front sights for silly wett shooting.  His sights allow you to adjust the width of the front blade.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

I bought a Stainless Steel Encore with Sythetic stocks in a Muzzle Loader for hunting moose in Alaska.

The rear sight is not stainless steel and due to a little corrision it stuck "down".

I missed a huge bull moose!

I took it off and threw it away.  Then added a Weaver-type scope base along with a Leupold scope.

Since a scope is forbidden on some hunts I also added a New England Peep and new front sight of the proper height.

The peep is easy-on, easy-off.

I took a bull moose as well as a bull elk with the peep.  Highly recommended.
