444 Leverevolution
« on: October 18, 2009, 04:00:47 AM »
I am considering a 444 Marlin Handi.  Does anyone know if the 444 Leverevolution case is shorter than standard, like the 45-70 Leverevolution ammo?  In looking at pics of the standard Hornady 265 gr FP load and the 265 gr LE ammo the LE appears to have a longer OAL (the bullet sticks out of the case farther).  This is not a huge deal, just something to be aware of.

Thanks all.

Yes. The Leverevolution cases measure about 18 thousanths shorter (2.05") than standard.  You have to start loads a few grains less and adjust dies as well. The brass does seem to be thicker and stronger though.  I got 40 mixed cases with my handi barrel in 444 (for sale/trade again ;)and found out the Hornady's case difference right away.

Same thing happened to me when I bought some 45-70 LE,  after I shot it I realized how short the cases were.  I wonder if you shot them a lot would you run into a problem with a 'ring' in the chamber.  Sort of like a 38 special in 357 mag.
