Having trouble with my Encore
« on: October 13, 2009, 07:00:25 AM »
With my ml barrel after i fire it i have trouble breaking the action open. Sometimes i have to squeez the lever 15 or 20 times before it will come open. I can dry fire it and it will open on the first try. Any ideas?

It is most likely a primer problem.  Some primers, notably Winchester 777, let so much gas into the breech that they actually erode the breech face.

If you cock the rifle, then uncock it without actually dry firing - does it still open at that point?

Have you ever had the action internals removed?  I would suggest carefully cleaning those internals and then, with even more care, reassemble the internals.  Leave a bit of quality lube on the internals.  Be sure to routinely clean the firing pin assembly.

Yep, clean the pin and bushing, make sure your spring isn't whissed. "Deteriorated"

MY encores firing pin was sticking and not allowing me to open mine . i took it apart cleaned the firing pin and spring . Then all was well  .But  I was getting so much blow by from the 209 primers after 10-15 shots from carbon blocking  the BP fire channel . Since i started using 777 and the .25 acp conversion i no longer  get  plugged breech plugs . My Breech area is spotless .  The weaker pistol primers in the .25 acp brass  are perfect for the size of the fire channel . Also form fitting the brass in my encore gives me a 100% seal . Going to 777 and .25 acp conversion instead of BH209 was a win win for me !!  No more plugged BP , Powder is cheaper and i get more , they sell it everywhere and  No flame cutting from a 209 primer , spotless breech and firing pin and my BP will last forever .
