SB1 question
« on: October 15, 2009, 05:25:38 AM »
I was checking out the facs and noticed that in the serial number area that in red it says my 1998 frame wiil not have rifle barrels fitted to it for some reason. However I believe this refers to SB2 frames and that my SB1 is eligible for the 357 and 44 magnum barrels. right? My frame has the NM prefix.

I'd have to look it up again, but I don't think they'll fit ANY rifle barrels to a frame of that year.  I would hunt up a SB2 in .357 Magnum, ream it to Maximum and have an extremely versatile and safe weapon.  Oh!!!, I remember now.......I did that.......Almost forgot......I'm doing it again in a shorter, lighter version.  Don't get old...CRS is miserable ;)

They will fit 357 and 44 barrels to SB1 frames made 1987 and later.

Rick, I think that only applies to SB2 frames because they were outsourced, but you should call em, give them the serial number and they'll tell you what barrels can be fitted.

I'm not so interested in Having Remington fit a barrel as I am in the safety of putting my 44 magnum barrel on said frame. It fits perfectly and I have shot it several times. I'm thinking about taking the action apart and adjusting the trigger if it is ok for extended use.

I think it's just a liability issue with H&R because the SB2 frames were outsourced, if H&R will fit a 44mag barrel to any SB1 frame made from 1987 on, there should be no problems with yours.  ;)
