1894 pre 100k serial # value
« on: October 28, 2009, 07:26:22 AM »
My grandfather just gave me a 1894, serial # 86,xxx in 25-35 wcf. I was wondering what the value was for insurance purposes. It is in about 85 to 90% condition.

Thank you

According to the 29th edition of BLUE BOOK of GUN VALUES by S.P. Fjestad which is one of the main references for gun values lists a value of $2650.00 to $3250.00 for a standard model rifle in 80% to 90% condition respectfully.
Note: add about 25% for calibers other than 30-30 & 32 special.
That would be about $650.00 to $800.00 additional.
This is assuming that there is no special features and the gun is infact 80% to 90% condition.
The book does not list 85%.

I would suggest that you take this gun to a well recognized WINCHESTER appraiser and have him write up a insurance appraisal.

Gun values are one place the insurance companies will try to stick it to you if you should ever have a claim.
A written appraisal will go a long way towards backing up your claim.
Also take lots of very clear photos of every detail of the gun.
It is hard to argue against these two items if the time should ever come.
