Exactly what kind of "Stevens action" are you looking for ?

After all, besides the new Stevens-branded Savage CF economy rifles, there have been many different CF & RF Stevens rifles and shotguns made since 1864.

If you are looking for a modern stevens action you will be money ahead to just buy a whole rifle and sell off the parts you don't want.  Pick one in an unsual chambering like 22-250 or 7mm08 and you will get a little more for the barrel.  Larry

You really want a Stevens?

Serious about a Stevens?  Perhaps a Classic Stevens?

Maybe you might want to look at  http://www.singleshotrifles.com/

What's wrong with a Stevens?  Those single shots are kind of neat, but not when you could get 9 or 10 Stevens bolt actions for the price of one of those.   ::)

Since this forum is 'Custom Rifles' it is not unreasonable to think someone is interested in building a custom rifle.

You are correct in your cost comparisons of the Savage/Stevens bolt guns.  Nothing wrong with having a few rack guns but that might become boring after a while.  Savage is innovative and has been providing excellent value to customers for years.  Nothing wrong with using a Savage action to build a custom rifle.

However, when I hear Stevens I just have a slightly different vision:

If you are looking for a Stevens 200 bolt action, you should try www.savageshooters.com.  You will have to pay $12 for a membership before you will be able to access the classifieds but it will be worth it on your first purchase.  A Stevens action on that site goes for about $225.  You will also find barrels, stocks, triggers, etc.  For example, a pulled factory sporter barrel goes for about $60 shipped.

like larry said your better off just buying a gun and selling off what you dont want. if that site has them for $225 and a whole gun is like just under $300 it will cost you less if you just buy the whole gun.

what are you wanting to build????

I picked up a Stevens 200 in .223 Rem for $280 delivered to my FFL including transfer fees, sold the barrel off of it last week for $80.  Here is a link to the pics of the rifle I built on it:  http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,181456.0.html

Right now over on Savage Shooters Forum there is an Accutrigger SA stagger feed for sale for $300

41 Magnum

The short barrel 24"  is chambered in 218 Mashburn Bee.

The medium is 26" and chambered in  30/40 Krag.

The long barrel is 28" and chambered in 38-55 Win.

What kind of paint did you use on the stock and how is it holding up?
