Folding knife repair?
« on: October 22, 2009, 11:45:41 AM »
I have never found a clear source to have a folding knife repaired. It is a three blade that one blade is broken off where the edge meets the sholder of the plate where the hinge pin hole is. I still have the blade or would have a complete blade fitted.

If it can't be posted open, please PM me.

Eddie,  There is a small book available telling how to repair folder knives.  You could also google for folder repair to find someone to fix it.  Unless it is a custom folder it is often not worth fixin'.  Buy another one.

My kids gave it to me a ong time ago. Browning doesn't make them any more. This is what I posted in the bow hunting thread:

Bow Hunting Knife

Does anyone make a folding lock blade knife with a saw and a hide hook?

I had a three blade Browning many years ago but it isn't made any more. For bow hunting it was compact and I always had a saw in my pocket that could get me up a tree with a climber, a game dressing tool and a good blade for anything else needed. All in a package that fit comfortably at light weight in my pocket. Blade didn't lock though.

A two blade with the hide hook on the knife blade would be great, the saw blade could have a fish hook degouger on it.

All the saw blades I ever had in a folder, I had to refile the teeth to have a propper saw. An Asian pull cut tooth works best in a short saw blade. More control, safer and a little more stroke out of the same length blade. You can pull the blade all the way across and out of the limb.

I haven't found a repair site by searching yet. I'll try some more.
thanks, eddiegjr

Check out Marlin Firearms web site-look in store under accessories . They sell a Blackie Collins folder with saw and gut hook blade (locking) for $7.50. Belive it or not really not a bad knife for the $. I was surprised when I got mine. ;)

There is a ton of good knives out there, you just have to look.  R/E your knife - It is not worth repairing.  That said, if the kife has meaning to you, then any decent custom maker could make and fit a new blade, or maybe weld and re-heat treat the broken blade.  It will cost you a few bucks, though.  Use the internet to find a few custom makers in your area, and call em.

Thanks everybody, eddiegjr

Update: The alpha won out, It is one unit with no extra parts to keep up with and has a saw, gut hook and a skinning blade all in two blades. eddie

Well then, I guess the knife your kids gave you is now a fishing weight..

'Defiinatly not. It has been broken for 15 years and I still use the blade for some things and the saw at times. I just wanted something close to use and give away. I'm still going to try to get it repaired. Everyone I have talked to in the past about fixing it would never give me enough information for me to really think they wanted to fix it. It's small enough to be comfortable and it's a good looking knife. It has 3 blades but is still small enough to be comfortable in my pocket

The first place I looked had 11 folding knives lying there. I was going to measure the knife.  I just like good working knives. I'll get it done yet. eddiegjr
