RCBS X die redux
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:29:57 PM »
Last year I posted about the X die and a possible problem my son had. After talking to him yesterday he told me he uses a bore guide for cleaning his bolt actions and was getting a crud build up in the throat area of his bore. He now makes sure he cleans that ring out and it MAY have caused him to have a pressure problem with his .243 the summer before last. He backed the mandrel out so the X die part doesn't touch the brass so I can't actually say it wasn't the X die use causing his high pressure. He has not had any pressure problems since cleaning the crud ring out and not using his X die to control the brass length. If you use a bore guide keep this in mind. Dave

If I was him I would pull the bullets and mic the brass necks.
RCBS says the die will not thicken the neck
