Rossi Puma M92 .45LC Cowboy
« on: September 13, 2009, 03:01:36 AM »
Yesterday I attended a CAS shoot at a club that is behind my favorite gun store (about 3.5 hour drive from home).
I arrived early so I could do a little shopping before the shoot.

I bought a Puma lever gun in .45Colt, 20" octagonal barrel because I had no lever gun for the competition.

I arrived at the Cowboy Shoot with barely enough time to run a wet patch down the bore, no sighting in, no cleaning the action, just straight up to the line and shoot.

Ten .45 Colts cartridges slid easily into the mag without a snag. First stage had us shooting the lever gun into very small swinging steels.

All ten found their mark without a belch, fart or hiccup. I was grinning.

By the time the day was done, 4 stages and 40 rounds later, the Puma had cycled all rounds smoothly and put each one on those damned small  ever moving steel targets.

I watched many beautiful Uberti, Winchester and Marlin rifles jam, spit out live rounds and generally befuddle their owners (said owners having many rounds through at a much greater cost).

When can I expect troubles from this new gun? So far I am very impressed.

I've owned several to include one just like what you have. Never had a single problem with any of them. Right out of the box all have been just fine.

[When can I expect troubles from this new gun? ]

You can expect the "troubles", in the form of a "ration" about how they're a POS  (mostly from owners of original Winchester 92's and/or Browning 92's) - when you speak of how good these guns are ( I have a couple myself).  ;)   ;D

BTW - THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS ! !

I own 4, 357 24" oct. barrel, 44 mag 20", 454 20" and a stainless 454 with 16 1/2" barrel.  Only problem I have ever had with any is the wood butt stock on the 44 split and the mag tube on it backed out with the recoil.  All shoot very well and run great although a bit stiff when new.  Fixed both problems 2 years ago and had no others.  DP

I have a stainless 20" Puma in 45 Colt for the past 10 years.  I have put several thousand rounds through it mostly for CASS shoots and practice but some stiffer loads for hunting.  It is my very favorite lever gun and near the very top (just behind my Shiloh Sharps rifle) for favorite overall.  All I can say is that it goes with me everywhere as I have a scabbard in my car trunk for it.

I've had one for about 25 years in 38/357. Maybe longer.
I don't know how many rounds I've ran through it.

I've actually never had any problems wit it at all.
It handles any ammo I feed it.

Mine is a 92 SRC, I don't know if there's other versions.
But it's been a regular workhorse over the years.
Very dependable little carbine.

I've had one for about two years now and about 500 rds of 44mag, only problem was me short stroking the lever.  The guns are great.
