Cranberries?
« on: October 23, 2009, 04:09:44 AM »
Gak! Blecch! I can't stand 'em.

But lots of people must like them because they're still around. Can you think of anything good to say about cranberries?

They are good for your uniary tract.  They are good as sauce for turkey dinners.  They have to be mixed with another fruit juice to be tolerable to drink.

As Dixie Dude says they are excellent for your kidneys and often prescribed.   Perhaps you need to acquire a taste for them as they are outstanding with turkey and roast pork.  Ocean Spray makes a grape, cranberry juice that is very palatable.

I love them.  I carry dried ones almost every hunting trip.  Homemade cranberry relish is the best.  The canned crap sucks.

I like cranberries.  I simmer them until they pop & use plenty of sugar.  After the sauce is made I often mix it with a little vodka.

It makes a fair wine too, but my favorite homemade is dandelion. Tried cranberries in the still once, but the skins made a problem.

The Mrs. says they're good for curing urinary tract infections. I just mix it with vodka for a good drink.

Cranberries!!!! YUUUUUCK! I would rather drink battery acid. Cranberry juice tastes so bad, they mix it with every kind of fruit juice just to make it drinkable, and nothing works to rid it of that horrible taste.

"Another thing".......They have the most ridicules commercial on TV. Those two idiots standing in a bog with hip waders on.

Other berries (especially Blueberries) have the same potent antioxidants, and taste a lot better.

Regular consumption of cranberries has been shown to both help prevent urinary tract infections and treat active infections by preventing bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall 1, 2 , 3. Blueberries, like other Vaccinium species (Bilberry, Huckleberry, Cranberry) contain flavonoids such as anthocyanins which are potent antioxidants. Blueberries had the highest antioxidant capacity of 40 fruits and vegetables tested by the USDA. These berries have a powerful ability to protect against free radical damage, inhibit enzymes which may promote cancer, reduce histamine production and act as an anti-inflammatory nutrient to connective tissue.

"Lets hear it for more Blueberries" .......By the way! Why don't they sell Blueberry juice for urinary tract infection?

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and some folks will ruin a great meal on that day of remembrance by serving that awful stuff on the same plate with the bird. ;D
