Wisconsin Trappers

 I was wondering how things were going for you guys.Those of you that can start on rats this weekend,may end up being the lucky ones.
 Our water season starts here the 31st.I may be sitting home and making cable products,looks like we will be frozen over by then.

not alot of rats around... i dont start till Nove 1st ,,, dont like blue coon, mink  ect.... will pick up rats as i find them... i dont trap big marshes.... plus  there arent any rats in some of the big rat marshes of years ago... no one knows why but a lot of theories.

I've managed to snap a dozen coon so far and the hides are 50/50 like always. The Males look pretty good and the females are still some what bluish. So far only one of the coons is what I call a small and he is blue.  With the rain making everything a mess I decided I'm going to pick up traps tomorrow. I still believe coon numbers are down here in my area, I have one very good farm where I've not caught a coon so far.
I'll pinch a few more coon when the river opens for rats, but I'm a long way from my normal 60 to 80 coon in 10 days.

I haven't trapped rats any where but the big river in sevearl years. The river opens second Monday in Nov and right now I believe there is more rat houses then I've seen in years??? Lots of rat houses don't mean there is lots of rats. Like RdFx said the the rat numbers have been down for years and no one seems to know why or care, at least the none trappers.
Maybe if I get a chance I'll shoot a pic of the rat houses and post it, it is nice to see them all. Hope there are really rats to go with all the houses not just a few little ones running all over busy building.

I did a 3 check rat canoe line  in northern WI for the opening weekend. Rat sign was OK, but one had to back pack gear and canoe in .5 to .75 miles so it was work!!!  Wind on Sunday and Monday was horrible and bad respectively trying to handle a canoe in 10-40 MPH winds is not fun and wastes lots of time. I got 70 rats, mostly large nice rats, not one kit so I am sure they are not super productive in this flowage marsh.
I have not set traps at all near my home area. Several conferences, funerals and  Iam dealing with some health issues that is changing my plans as well.

Didn't get to set the opener as the family and I all had the flu. Did manage to set a flowage during the week so I would have something to check this weekend. Only managed to catch 15 rats. Pulled the same check. Waiting for the southern opener this weekend.
